In his new book The Battleground of Art: Radical Curating in the Crisis of Neoliberalism (Verso Books, 2026), Marco Baravalle puts forward "radical permanence", a concept inspired by twenty years of art activism with Sale Docks, an autonomous collective in Venice. Radical permanence opposes the neoliberal regime of mobility typical of artists and art workers through self-management, social rootedness and resistance, interweaving struggles against artwashing, gentrification and the precarisation of labour. The speakers discuss activist practices across Venice, New York and Palestine, and the role of artists and cultural producers within the global interconnection of struggles.
